Something Navy

As you begin to refresh your summer wardrobe, what do you look for? Shorts and tees, no doubt – those are the easy get. But the sundress – now that takes a little more work.

The dress must be flattering to the silhouette, that’s a given. But it should also evoke a feeling – one that plunges you into a momentary daydream of all that’s good to come. The warmth of the sun. Cool breezes. Salt on skin. Beach waves. Patio barbecues. Refreshing cocktails. Outdoor concerts. A much needed holiday vacation on a exotic island. The allure of summer means a slower pace and a few lazy, carefree days to recharge. Simply put, summer celebrates a beautiful soul (that’s you), in a beautiful sundress. What more could a girl ask for?

The lovely Veery dress, styled by Philly Fashion blogger Hara of Fashion and the City, transports us to Greece (where it was also made!) with its dramatic open back – hello, island life! – and the classic nautical blue we love so much. Must be the Greek in us! Airy and lightweight, with a sweet babydoll cut, the Veery is revealing in just the right places. Perfect for stealing glimpses of that sun-kissed skin you’ll be baring all season long.  And did you notice the delicate lace and pleated detailing? Equally eye-catching, wouldn’t you say?

Hara popped the look with accessories in dramatic red. We could not have found a better complement to the Veery dress if we had paired it ourselves! The Illusion Clutch by Vice Versa of Athens was handmade from soft Greek leather and is available in our e-shop in a plethora of bright summer hues. The playful Tassel Earrings, also handmade in Greece and featuring crystal studded endcaps and crystal beaded tassels, add movement and polish to the ensemble.  We know you’ve loved the tassel as much as we do, so we’ve restocked them in the LILA Fashion International e-shop in two additional colors, Ice Blue and Black. You’re welcome!

Come summer, nothing gets between us and our shades! Ok, so we have a bit of a thing for sunglasses… you can never have to many pairs, right? We love switching up our sunnies to perfectly match our mood and our ensemble. The shades Hara is styling are handcrafted on the Greek isle of Syros in the Mediterranean by designer Zylo Eyewear. The wood used to create each impeccably designed pair of sunglasses is sourced directly from the island – how cool is that? Spotlighted in this shoot are the Felis Modenia Sunglasses, which feature a signature oversized shape with a lavish and winding design. You can also check out all of the inspired styles we carry in our e-shop, here!

How would you switch up this look to suit your style? All for now, thanks for stopping by! xo

Bring on the Pinstripe & Lace

There are so many trends that we are adoring this season. Some are classic – could we ever tire of crop tops, florals, rompers and the cool easy vibes that come with all things festival-inspired? We think not. And then we have our in-the-moment fashion fixations, which could be a color, pattern or print (pineapples and palms, anyone?) – that given enough airtime, are blasted to a whole new dimension of what’s cool and trending.

The pinstripe has made its debut in many a collection this season, both in the U.S. and abroad; we’ve seen it prevail in some of our own collections as well. Greek designer Madame Shou Shou incorporated the preppy print in a range of their airy dresses and billowing skirts (one of which is styled below!), while Mehtap Elaidi of Turkey used it in combination with frills, ruffles and tulle to draw you in with their unique take on the feminine silhouette. The print also came out to play in the beautifully handcrafted line of leather shoes by Lolo the Ballerina of Belgium. Think copper pinstripe ballet slippers and and metallic navy t-strap flats that romance you with their impeccable design and craftsmanship. All three international collections are available in our e-shop!

Philadelphia based blogger, Davida of Vida Fashionista joined us for a recent photoshoot, and effortlessly styled this pinstripe and lace look that we love so much! The Lapelle Dress features a soft blue pinstripe and lace detailing (pay mind to the dreamy back of the dress where the lace is sheer enough to see skin! #HelloSummer), trumpet sleeves and belt to accentuate the waist. She accessorized with a silk scarf, oversized shades, wedges and pearl earrings, while channeling the laid-back, easy vibes of summer.

As far as accessories go, we’ve determined that a silk scarf can lend even the most ‘shabby chic’ of looks a little polish. If you’ve typically shied away from scarves because you’re not quite sure how to style them – now’s the time for experimentation! Consider tying yours into a dainty little bow at the neck, fashioning it in the hair like a headband or wrapping it around the wrist like a cuff. Or if not for yourself, use it to accessorize your handbag! Scarves can lend color (and dress up) a simple, neutral colored top handle. Davida is styling the beautiful Pegasus Silk Scarf by Greek designer Grecian Chic. Did you know that each scarf is hand-illustrated and digitally printed on pure silk in London? Even better – each print is limited edition, and only 50 pieces of each design will ever be reproduced. This definitely makes our list of top investment pieces.

We are particularly excited by the mini barrel bag that Davida is styling in this look, as it is from our new Swarovski crystal studded collection. While you may have come to know and love our vibrant selection of barrel bags by Athens-based Vice Versa, the mini version (these come in TWO sizes) are now available with a little extra embellishment – perfect for styling to a wedding, special occasion or a simply for a fancy night out. Davida took our ‘My Passport’ Barrel Bag in White out for a stroll. Explore the full range of colors in our e-shop!

Wedges are a popular choice for summer, and we love the ones Davida is styling. Swap them out for ballet flats or sandals if you’re looking to feel a little more grounded in your look. We also can’t get enough of her oversized shades and pearl stud earrings – a great compliment to the scarf if you’re opting for dressier with your final look.

What do you think of this look? xx

Picnic Ready

What could be more exciting than new spring arrivals? Spring is officially in at the LILA Fashion International store and web shop, so get ready to embrace a palate of sweet pastel hues, prints galore (think florals, pinstripe and gingham!) and the most romantic, flowing lines you ever did see. Any wonder spring is our favorite season?

We invited burgeoning Fashion Blogger and our darling former Merchandising Intern, Jasmine, to model this spring-inspired look at our recent photoshoot. Isn’t she a doll? There is so much to love about this look – for one, we are major proponents of mixing prints. Pairing a floral crop on top of gingham trousers lends this look a little dimension – and wouldn’t you say it’s a little more playful than pairing it with a plain old white tee? Pictured is the Tuyauterie Top, which is perfectly lightweight and printed with sweet floral blooms.

This season, high-waisted is also having a moment. This is definitely a trend we get behind! Notice how the gingham trousers sit just at the belly button; we love how it flatters the curves, while also accentuating the waistline. Even better, if you’re a fan of the crop top (like we are!), the Pleat Trousers rise up to meet it, revealing just enough skin to be sexy, without the overexposure. If the crop top is not your thing, consider pairing it with a solid tee or tank top, slightly tucked in the front, and a low top tennis shoe or wedge to suit the occasion!

Accessories were kept at a minimum as the outfit itself is loud enough. Do you agree? Earrings from LILA’s own jewelry line (did you know every piece is handmade in Athens, Greece?) was paired with this look. Featured are the Tiger Eye Shimmer Earrings, fashioned from genuine tiger eye and Swarovski crystal with sterling silver hooks, which are currently sold out. However you can shop a similar pair – Tiger-Eye Tear Drop Earrings – in our e-shop! We also paired the look with the Metal & Strass Bracelet in two colors – camel and rose gold. The bracelet brings a little edge to the ensemble with a combination of gold studded hardware and rhinestones on supple Greek leather.

The Wave Clutch (hello, summer!) polished off the look! Inspired by the Mediterranean Sea, this handcrafted leather clutch from Greece features a unique shape in soft pink pastel. This color is currently available in-store only, but you can still shop it in WhiteCobalt Blue and Serenity in our online shop.

Where to style this look? Sky’s the limit. Consider it for a picnic date in the park, a brunch date with friends or leisurely stroll downtown.  All for now! xx

5 Fave Brunch Spots

When it comes to brunch, Philadelphians are spoiled for choice. City dwellers can step into any one of the myriad bars, restaurants and cafes that spill out onto sidewalks and color side streets, and they’ll likely find options, or at the very least Sunday brunch.

For suburbanites living on the Main Line, it’s a whole different story. Decent brunch spots were not always easy to come by. In fact, five years ago when Bryn Mawr was still ‘home’, to say we could count them on one hand was a stretch. So much for us marathon brunchers!

Fast-track to today, and as best we can describe, the Main Line is seeing somewhat of a renaissance. Long overdue. Coffee shops, retails stores and eateries have been cropping up faster than we can keep up, and to meet the growing demands of a hungry populace, more restauranteurs than ever are serving up a pretty damn good brunch.

We’ve rounded up our Top 5 Brunch Spots from the city to the suburbs to share with you! Some are old faves; the rest we’ve just recently visited and thought it only fair to give you the 411.

A Taste of Britain (503 West Lancaster Ave.)

We’ve been frequenting this old gem for years, even before the tea house expanded into its current, beautiful space! The interior is delightfully decorated to make you feel like you really are attending a tea party, and the tea is served up in vibrantly colored tea pots and floral cups and saucers. Tucked in one corner of the space near the hostess station, an incredible variety of imported British goodies is reason enough to get excited – think British chocolates, cookies and jams! The menu also abounds with sweet and savory selections, British favorites and so many options for tea! Full afternoon tea is presented as three tiers of deliciousness, with tea sandwiches, petite-fours and a scone to top it all off. We recommend going for the Frittata of the Day with a side of Blue Salad and a pot of Coconut Almond tea. Your taste buds will thank you later.

Quiche of the day and a blue salad at A Taste of Britain.

Metropolitan Bakery & Café (264 S 19th St.)

This little bakery is a favorite among neighborhood locals, and on the blustery day in which we decided to pay a visit, it beckoned as a cozy little hotbox and welcome reprieve from the cold. Step inside and the heady scents of buttery pastries mingled with steamy soups and savory tarts is enough to knock any hungry man or woman off their feet. The extensive menu of iced and hot latte’s, americano’s and cappuccino’s will please any coffee enthusiast, while the bounty of scrumptious sweet and savory offerings will have you eagerly planning your next visit. As the space is small, stop by during off-hours to avoid the crowds and guarantee yourself a perch by the window.

Isn’t the exterior of Metropolitan Bakery just darling?

Nudy’s Cafe Ardmore (11 Cricket Ave.)

Nudy’s is no solo act. They’ve been around for years, and very likely, you’ve given their breakfast or lunch menu a whirl. Granted, some of their cafes are in better shape than others, but it wasn’t until we slid into an inviting booth at their new Ardmore location (their 10th!), that we were smitten.  The interior is remarkably warm and cheery – just your friendly neighborhood watering hole – where families pass around plates of pancakes and french toast, the undergrads dig into crispy bacon and the tastiest home fries you’ll ever savor, and as for us? We’re perched at the breakfast bar, inhaling our veggie scrambles and fueling our addiction for caffeine.

Turning Point (925 West Lancaster Ave.)

A no frills addition to the Bryn Mawr Village, Turning Point’s atmosphere is casual, its furnishings, spartan. Yet on the weekends, it draws crowds. Likely because the menu options are plentiful, the servings are large, and the omelette’s are delicious. Highly recommended is their Garden Frittata, served with toasted wheat pita and fresh fruit. And as for their cappuccino’s? They’re frothy AF and so very satisfying. Top marks from us.

Can you tell we like quiche and cappuccino? Brunch at Parc.

Parc Restaurant (227 S 18th St.)

If you adore Pareee like we do, this darling Parisian Brasserie, reminiscent of the high society café’s of Le Belle Epoque, will certainly hit the spot. Set in the heart of Rittenhouse Square, Parc’s welcoming interior is nothing short of grand, and a touch romantic, with orbed lighting overhead to illuminate the space, dark wood finishings, mosaic tiled flooring, and hints of merlot red. As for the bar, that’s a scene in itself, with mixologists whipping up fanciful cocktails and coffee’s, and the best cappuccino’s we’ve had the pleasure to sip in Philadelphia. The quiche is a tried and true favorite, generously sized and incredibly filling. A must-try during your next visit downtown.

The Weekender

What’s the absolute best part about the weekend? You may have already guessed it, but for us, it’s the pure, unadulterated pleasure of dressing down. That means taking a well-deserved break from the restrictive, uncomfortable and confining clothing that is considered office appropriate, and slipping into something a little more, well, ‘you’.

Thankfully many workplaces have become a little more lax with their dress codes, but even so, you must still always be mindful that your attire is up to snuff. And also, that you appear professional and polished, even if you don’t quite feel like yourself.  The weekend is our remedy to that. As we transition into spring, our weekend wardrobe means paring back heavier attire like jackets and coats, and embracing lighter (and brighter!) pieces that are easy to layer and yet still comfy.

One of our favorite ways to layer, is by executing the ‘Oxford look’, but with more fashion, less frump. Breaking it down, it’s the traditional button-down and cable knit sweater combo, but with a twist. Follow along, as this little source of outfit inspo is just getting fun!

A plain button-down, is just that, plain… unless you’ve picked one with a playful print, or mixed it with pieces that can lend your look dimension. The one styled, the Blue Jay Feather print, is part of a larger collection that we discovered (and adore!) by Scottish designer Gibson & Birkbeck. In fact, each charming wildlife print motif is an homage to the Highlands of Scotland — from the Mallard and Sly Fox shirts, to the Slouchy Pinecone Tee. No wonder we love them all. They’re also boyfriend-fitted and made from cozy cotton poplin so they get high marks from us as an easy-to-style transitional piece for spring!

To complement the print, we styled it with the Iris Knit Top, featuring an ultra-soft upper in warm olive hues, and white lace bottom. Paired together, we love how the collar playfully pops out from the crewneck, while at bottom, you can still catch glimpses of the print through the beautiful detailing of the lace. Also, how darling is the baby doll cut of the Iris Knit?

Accessories play a big role here, much with any outfit. Bottega Veneta’s beautiful cat-eye and tortoiseshell shades make a statement all on their own, lending attitude and je ne sais quoi to the look. Also in the mix, a black leather Metal & Strass Bracelet for added edge, and a necklace from LILA’s own collection of handmade jewelry to polish it all off.

The darling Barrel Bag in Grey by Greek designer Vice Versa brings the entire look full circle. You’ve seen us style the Barrel many, many times – it’s quickly become one of our all-time favorites and a staple in LILA Fashion International’s online shop and storefront. Spotlighted is the larger of the two sizes, available in grey with a striking cutouts design. If you love this… just wait until you see our full range of colors! Head over to the LILA shop to see the entire collection… plus, keep checking back as NEW styles will be arriving in the shop very soon!

We’re also delighted to share the newest addition to LILA – our line of furry pom pom accessory keychains that will lend a fun pop of color to your tote, top handle or clutch, when you’re looking for a little something extra. Plus, they come complete with a key ring and hook so it’s also perfect for keys, not just as a little bag charm. We’re styling the Pom Keychain in Grey in this look, but you can view all the colors by typing ‘Pom Keychain’ in the Search bar or heading over to the LILA Luxe Jewelry section. Never leave the house without one!

Leggings and knee-high suede wedges wrap up this look – though flats or ankle boots would make a great alternative if you’re looking for a more casual footwear alternative.

What are your thoughts? Does this look favor your weekend style? All for now. xo
